Big Mommas Part I

I just gotta tell ya... I have so much to say and so much on my calendar that I’m not sure which way is actually up or down! But, I do most definitely want to share my “Big Mommas”.

Not only is it egg and chick days ‘round here, it’s also foaling and calving time too.

To say I run on “E” this time of year is an understatement and yet it’s also my fuel. When one is pressed to be on their toes and to be spot on with their knowledge; running on “E” is exactly why one seeks every resource possible to cross the finish line before bottoming out.

I’d like to introduce ya’ll to my mares that are ready to foal within the next couple of weeks.

Saoirse Ean aka Fancy.

Fancy is a 2012 mare that was shown in Cow Horse shows until she was a 5 year old and she was a super star!!!

Fancy has been an extremely athletic and keen horse. Her foals have carried on her kind heart and willingness to please. Fancy is due March 23rd with her third foal. Her first filly hitched a ride to Arizona where she is a roping, heeling beauty queen. Her second foal is a gelding who is drool worthy and I have him in training for myself.

Fancy has not shown normal signs of progression during her pregnancy. However, I can feel the foal rock, roll and kick. I suspect that she‘ll carry her foal past her due date and I do pray for a safe and healthy foal.

Harriet.

Oh mercy me! The giant, the thundering and statuesque half draft mare! Harriet has such a calm and demanding presence with an air of... “come tell me how pretty I am“.

Harriet is due to foal her second on April 6th. Her first foal was a black filly that is in training with me right now and I gotta say that Whiskey, her first foal is the kind you write home about!

We are super excited to see what Harriet produces this year.

So far Harriet is right on track and progressing beautifully.

Lotta Sunny Freckles aka Sunny

Sunny is not my mare, but the baby she is growing holds a history and love like no other for me. She is owned by my dear friend Carolyn and is a daughter of a stallion that a mutual friend of ours raised. To say this coming foal means the world to me is an understatement.

Sunny is due to foal April 11th. Her first two foals she carried to 365 days, so I'm not anxious yet for her. She is progressing perfectly and her foal is lively and well in utero.

The next few weeks for me will be spent hovering over these mares.

I do pray that their foaling is successful and wildly beautiful.
