Barren Beauty of Winter

Updated: Sep 8, 2022

Winter is the biggest beast of them all for those of us who raise livestock and it doesn’t matter the size- Buffalo to Button Quail, it’s all a challenge. To comfort and survive the darkest and coldest months of the year is complete and total torture.

We live and breathe the bounty of the season and we know nothing other than the grit of our grind. To rest is something farmers and cultivators know nothing of. because All we know is blood, swear and tears.

For the calendar to asks us to be patient, sit tight and honor a slow down... it’s just too damn painful to wait with our worry. And to know we are at the mercy of the sun and the light she chooses to bestow upon us.

Sure, you can use artificial lights- hang a 60 watt bulb in your stalls, coops, greenhouses and breeding barns, but is that what Mother Nature truly wants? No, she literally freezes her thoughts and well wishes when she demands a ten below zero night. So who am I to complain? She does have a reason and a method behind her brutal bitterness.

What is natural to the cycle of those who know no manipulation and those who are have no choice but to submit to the light and or lack thereof, is the difference between those who have the ability to shape Mother Nature by their own hands and gain an upper an hand, but no matter which way you choose to produce, reproduce and grow it should be congratulated.

Because there is no right or wrong way.... you must find your own way and that is what makes each one of us unique.

~Many blessings and much love
