Mandarin Ducks are a species native to the Far East and are believed to symbolize love, health and abundance.  Mandarin pairs, "wedding ducks" were often given as gifts to newly wed couples to represent peace, fidelity and plentiful offspring. 

It is no surprise to me how the Mandarin came to hold such inspiration, honor and respect.  They are each one, exquisitely beautiful.  They are tender and kind to each other and typically remain monogamous.  With their unique courtship of soft vocalizations and stunning stand offs, their interactions are delightful to observe.  The drakes proudly watch over their hens, with gentle grooming and sweet talking.  The hen also shares an adoration for her Drake by never leaving his side and squawking his ear off.

Mandarins are not like a normal domesticated duck.  They are considered to be wild. Great care, planning and caution should be taken when choosing to add Mandarins to your collection.  Their closest relative is the North American Wood Duck.  Wood ducks prefer to spend their time perched high in trees or splashing in their ponds.  They are very flighty and skittish, but so incredibly loving.

Due to being seasonal layers, laying one clutch of 10-12 eggs per year, hatching eggs and ducklings are very limited.

To be able to give all of my customers a fair chance to purchase and hatch Mandarin eggs an eBay listing will be provided.

Announcements of availability will be made here Facebook and Instagram when they do start laying. Typically in my cold Northern climate my Mandarins start laying in April.

Ducklings will NOT be shipped, but will be available for local pick-up only.

With Mandarin Ducks being private and flighty birds, I do wish to offer my customers an opportunity to create a similar bond that I have been able to achieve by hand raising them.
